I really enjoyed the video on the Mobius Strip. I found it to be very insightful. I thought the comparison of our "on stage" lives and our "back stage" lives was a spectacular analogy. Mr. Palmer discusses how the two sides of a strip of paper, representing our "on stage" and "back stage" lives serves as model for how we as human beings have two distinct "sides" of ourselves.
So often I find myself deliberating about what I want to share about my feelings, thoughts, and values with the world, and what I want to keep to myself. Ultimately I think my reasons for this deliberation are image, status, desire for success and fear of rejection/failure; Much like the things Mr. Palmer mentioned.
In my early adult life I feel I have begun to form a "mobius strip" way of thinking and acting. The reason I think I have begun this process is based on the concept discussed in the the part of the video about co-creating reality. The influence of the world on ourselves, meshed with our influence on the world, creating this never ending cycle of a continuous exchanging of information, thoughts, concepts, values, morals, feelings etc. allows for constant change in ones cognitive development.
Personally, I believe this began taking place for me when I grew strong in my sense of self-identity and my values. However, the more I consider it, that confirmation of self most likely came from outer influence, therefore, slowly breaking the "circle" and allowing it to form a "mobius strip".
The development and maintaining this way of "being" seems like an ongoing process. It reminded me of the mathematical symbol for infinity; ongoing, no beginning, no end. This seemed like more than a coincidence to me.
I was very taken by one of your quotes. "The influence of the world on ourselves, meshed with our influence on the world, creating this never ending cycle of a continuous exchanging of information, thoughts, concepts, values, morals, feelings etc. allows for constant change in ones cognitive development" This is a great analysis of the complication of development. Additionally, I agree that the infinity symbol is a very fitting symbol for development. Not only is development ever changing and evolving but so is our identity. The co reality we create shows us that.
